The FMHL Group has, this week, in partnership with the City of Harare Fire Department conducted employee emergency preparedness and fire safety training aimed at all staff group wide. The training started with employees housed at its head office, First Mutual Park in Borrowdale. This is in line with global standards in which fire and safety training courses are compulsory for businesses and organisations. The training will help empower employees on fire safety and firefighting preparedness in the event of an unexpected fire at work or at home. The firefighting drill included theoretical and practical training on what constitutes a fire, the three elements that give impetus to fire, how to respond to fire alarms, how to use fire extinguishers, and how to apply other measures to extinguish fire. The training covered firefighting techniques for both work and home so as ensure the entire First Mutual family is educated in handling this hazard. Staff were also given the opportunity to extinguish live demo fires incorporating the different types of fire save for an electrical fire.
